Learning Disability Work Week

In support of Learning Disability Work Week which runs from the18th of November to the 22nd of November we thought we would share some photos and stories from our interns on the HS4LC Routes to Employment programme.

Learning Disability Work Week promotes and encourages a way of celebrating what great employees people with a learning disability can and do make!

According to a video published on the Mencap website, around 6% of people with a learning disability are in paid employment but around 60% would like to be employed!

At Harrogate Skills for Living Centre we know that many young adults with learning disabilities would like the opportunity to work so they can lead independent and fulfilled lives; this is why the HS4LC Routes to Employment programmes are so important in order to help young people achieve the dreams and aims at gaining employment. People with learning disabilities typically take longer to learn new tasks but with the right support they can overcome their difficulties and have a better chance of gaining paid employment.

Whilst on the Routes to Employment programme interns attend work placements, we thought to show our support for #LDworkweek we would share some of those photos with you.

We thought it would also be great to share some of our stories with you:

Learning Disability Work Week is a great awareness week to help show what great employees people with a learning disability can and do make!
