On the 1st of March some of the clients and staff from Harrogate Skills for Living Centre will be embarking on a virtual journey from Lands End to John O Groats! That is a grand total of 874 miles!
We are doing this to help raise funds for new gym equipment for the HS4LC Gym and to raise awareness of the HS4LC Healthy Hearts campaign that we launched at the end of last year.
We launched the HS4LC Healthy Hearts campaign as it is a very sad fact that coronary heart disease is a leading cause of death among people with learning disabilities and over 80% of adults with learning disabilities engage in levels of physical activity below the Department of Health ‘s minimum recommended level.
We wanted to help and encourage our local learning disability community to increase the amount of physical activity they take part in by offering FREE and easy access to a fully equipped gym in a safe environment at the Harrogate Skills for Living Day centre on North Park Road in Harrogate.
This virtual journey from Lands End to John O Groats will be a challenging task for our clients but everyone who is involved is very excited and determined to be successful!
We will be racking up the miles by swimming, walking and on the rowing machine, treadmill and stepper in the HS4LC gym. Working together we aim to cover an incredible 874 mile journey from one end of Great Britain to the other!
We hope you will follow our journey on social media, as we will be sure to keep you updated with the journey as we get on our way.
We would be very greatful if you would sponsor this fundraising event to help us raise funds for the HS4LC gym and enable us to improve the free fitness sessions by purchasing more gym equipment.
We thank you in advance for your support!
