Welcome to the Skills Bridge!

We know many young adults with learning disabilities and autism would like the opportunity to work. HS4LC's Skills Bridge is a supported internships programme aimed at giving young people the opportunity to develop their skills and get into sustainable paid employment.

At the beginning of September we officially launched the programme. The Skills Bridge students are settling in well and looking forward to starting their work placements over the coming weeks.

A supported internship is a structured study programme based with an employer and is unpaid, it can last anywhere from 6 - 12 months and is offered at local businesses and employers whilst also working with Harrogate Skills 4 Living Centre to reach individual targets and complete a personalised learning programme of which will include English and Maths. We are very lucky to be able to offer the students placements at The Crowne Plaza in Harrogate, Rudding Park Hotel and Spa

and ESS Defence at the Army Foundation College.

As well as working towards English and Math qualifications and their work placements, the Skills Bridge students are also learning independent life skills including budgeting and cooking. They are also attending gym sessions in the new HS4LC gym once a week.

The Skills Bridge programme is designed to help students develop their skills and maintain paid employment in the future. One of our students Kallum studied Horticulture at Askham Bryan College in York before coming to HS4LC for the Skills Bridge programme. He is excited to start his placement at Rudding Park in the gardening and site department and hopes to maintain a job in Horticulture on completion of the Skills Bridge programme.

We will keep you updated with photos and news as the journey of the Skills Bridge students continues!
