What a great first week back we have had! On Tuesday 4th September we returned from our annual two week summer break, where the day centre was closed.
On Tuesday morning the centre was quickly filled with new and returning clients raring to start the new 2018/19 day centre programme. We kicked the morning off with the return of the very popular Magic of the Musicals class, which has started with the classic film; The Sound of Music, this class is extremely popular and is for people who like listening, discussing and exploring the stories behind some of the world's most famous musicals. We also have the return of the HS4LC's Explorers Club, they headed to the beautiful City of Ripon for the day.
Our new timetable also brings some new courses including Top of the Pops with Chair Dancing, Rock and Pop and The Story Group. All the courses ran at Harrogate Skills for Living Centre are for adults with learning disabilities and autism. Our courses are designed to stimulate people's interest and to give them the skills needed through adult education and leisure learning to help them develop.
We are also very excited to open the brand new HS4LC Gym. We will be running gym and
fitness sessions in the gym on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with the additional opportunity of drop in sessions which will be available before and after day centre hours.
The HS4LC Skills Bridge Programme officially starts on Monday 10th September. This is the supported internship pilot in partnership with the Local Authority. The pilot programme will support three interns for 12 months who will gain work experience with a local employer whilst being
supported by a job coach to gain further work related skills and qualifications. We are very happy to have such great Harrogate employers involved in the scheme including Rudding Park, Crowne Plaza and ESS Defence at the Army Foundation College.
