Summer fun for all at HS4LC!

Well, what can we say the weather has been beautiful in Harrogate this last week and it has made us very excited for some of the things we have planned!

All the clients and staff are very excited to be having our Scarborough trip again this year. Last year we went for the day to Scarborough and it was a lovely day and a massive hit with clients so in July we have hired a coach and will be off for another fabulous excursion to Scarborough! Make sure you keep and eye on our social media and blog for the photos of our trip!

We also have our annual summer BBQ on Saturday the 28th July at our Brackenley Care Home.

The BBQ invite is open to all students and HS4LC staff, families, friends and carers (we're sorry this isn't a general public event). We hope everyone has received their invitations and please don't forget to RSVP to Nicky to reserve tickets.

This year we are aiming high, we want to bring you all a bigger and better fun filled event, on the day we will have live music from the local band "Let Luce" and we will also have our HS4LC Craft Fair stalls filled with all handmade goodies from the craft enterprise group and a raffle/tombola with some lovely prizes, BBQ food and soft drinks are provided.

We know it is going to be an exciting day for all involved and we just hope this glorious summer weather sticks around for it!

In addition to our Craft fair at the HS4LC BBQ we will be having a craft stall outside HS4LC (9 North Park Road, Harrogate) on Tuesday 7th August, if your passing why not stop by and check out all our lovely handmade summer themed items available to purchase.

In other exciting news.... we have just set up our Local Lotto good cause account. This will be going live on Tuesday 17th July!

If you havent heard about The Local Lotto fund yet, it is a new and exciting weekly lottery that raises money for good causes in Harrogate. All good causes supported by the lottery will benefit Harrogate District and its residents. Tickets for the lottery cost just £1 per week. Each ticket has a 1 in 50 chance to win a prize with the top prize of £25,000! That’s a better chance of winning than the National Lottery or the Health Lottery!

For each ticket bought through the HS4LC Local Lotto link, 50% of that comes directly to us. so this is a great new way for us to fundraise. We will have more information on this coming very keep posted!

You may of also seen we are launching a new pilot programme in September - The HS4LC Skills bridge programme, this is a supported internship programme. We are delighted to be running this pilot from September 2018 in partnership with the Local Authority.

The pilot programme will support three interns for 12 months who will gain work experience with a local employer whilst being supported by a job coach to gain further work related skills and qualifications.

HS4LC plan to register with the Education Funding Agency and once registered we will then offer 10 internship places starting in September 2019 for 12 months.

HS4LC's Skills Bridge is aimed at giving young people the opportunity to develop their skills and get into sustainable paid employment. Our programme is designed to be flexible. Each intern will have their individual learning targets set at the start of the programme; this will include elements of English and Maths.

The employment rate for adults with learning disabilities and autism remains at less than 6% nationally. We know that many young adults with learning disabilities would like the opportunity to work so they can lead independent and fulfilled lives; this is why HS4LC is launching its skills bridge programme in order to help young people achieve the dreams and aims at gaining employment. People with learning disabilities typically take longer to learn new tasks but with the right support they can overcome their difficulties and have a better chance of gaining paid employment.

The HS4LC Skills Bridge programme is aimed at 16 - 24 year olds with special educational needs, learning difficulty assessment and/or a EHC plan. Supported internships have been shown to proved an invaluable step towards achieving work aspirations.

We are very happy to announce the we have Harrogate Crowne Plaza, Rudding Park and ESS Defence at the Harrogate Army Foundation College onboard to offer work placements through the programme! We are already so happy and grateful for the support they have shown us!

We will have more exciting news and lots of photos coming soon!
