A busy start to 2020!

4 February 2020

Can you believe we are in February already!

We have had a very busy but fun and productive start to 2020 at Harrogate Skills for Living Centre! We wanted to share some of the things we have been up to with you.

Firstly our day centre learners have been getting very creative, making lots of colourful artworks. We had a vote in January to see which musical was HS4LC learners favourite and our winner was 'Mamma Mia'. We then watched the movie and off course sang along to all the Abba songs...very loudly! We also started work on artwork for a 'Mamma Mia' inspired display for the day centre.

Our Wednesday Wanderers group have got off to a great start in 2020 and have already explored Bebra Gardens and the Lido in Knaresborough, Nidd Gorge, Killinghall Moore and Knox area of Harrogate. They have lots of new and exciting places scheduled to visit this year.

Our Healthier Life, Healthier Me group have been learning some new massage techniques as a way of relaxation, this is something the learners really enjoy doing.

Our Computers and Photography group that runs on a Wednesday afternoon have started to produce a digital Harrogate scrapbook. This contains lots of before and after photos of some famous landmarks around our beautiful town. We look forward to sharing this with you when it is completed.

The HS4LC newsletter group have been busy getting to work on their first issue of 2020 - so keep your eyes peeled, it will be available to view on our website in the coming weeks.

You may have seen us announce at the beginning of January that our Routes to Employment interns would be taking over The Bridge Coffee Bar at COGs in Knaresborough every Monday. We are a month into attending the cafe now and it really is going from strength to strength week in week out.

The interns are front of house taking orders, making drinks and serving customers as well as in the kitchen preparing freshly baked scones and following specially created visual recipes to make a different soup of the day each week.

We have received lots of great feedback and are really happy with the support we have received from the local community on this new venture. If you haven't already been, we hope you can come and visit us one Monday for a lovely fresh lunch or even just a cup of tea and cake to show us your support. You can find us at The Bridge Coffee Bar, Gracious Street Methodist Church,Chapel Street, Knaresborough, HG5 8AN.

Before Christmas we ran a colouring competition that all day centre learners could enter. We had lots of fabulous entries and it was really hard for the judges to make a decision! But we finally have a winner!

First prize went to Mandy and second prize to Pippa. Both won a set of felt tip pens and a colouring book. Well done to Mandy and Pippa and well done to everyone who took part in the competition.
