On a Tuesday we run our Explorers group. The Explorers Club is an all-day group which takes students to discover places in Harrogate and the surrounding area whilst exploring our local history, legends and famous people.
In summer the group maybe found playing crazy golf at local places including, Ripon, The Valley Gardens and Knaresborough, having a wonder around the lovely shops in Otley or Ilkley or having a lovely fish and chip lunch at the Wetherby Whaler.
When the weather starts to cool down the group enjoy visiting markets, especially Christmas markets and museums.
In the last couple of weeks the Explorers club have gone to Ripon to visit the different sites and landmarks decorated with poppies to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. An estimated 50,000 knitted poppies were put up and around Ripon, lining the route from Ripon Spa Gardens to Ripon Cathedral.
The group enjoyed visiting Spa Gardens, Ripon Cathedral and also the City Centre. The group were even lucky enough to meet the artist of the memorial made from mud titled 'Fields of Mud, Seeds of Hope', Dan Metcalfe.
Last week the Explorers club headed off to the local seaside resort of Redcar. They had great fun on the minibus journey and indulged in the typical seaside lunch of fish and chips at the local Wetherspoons!
During their visit the group had a look around the local shops and took in the lovely sea air with a walk along the sea front. Everyone said they had a fantastic day out and loved their trip to the seaside!
