#LDWeek18

The 2018 Learning disability awareness week is all about health, tying in with mencap's latest campaign; Treat me well.

The campaign is to transform how the NHS treats people with a learning disabilities in hospital, as simple changes in hospital care can make a big difference such as better communication, more time and clearer information.

Mencap explain on their website that they know that the treatment people with a learning disability get in hospital is still not good enough in many parts of the country.

This has to change and has lead to the launch of their latest 2018 campaign.

1200 people with a learning disability die avoidably in hospital, each and every year. The "Treat me well" campaign, calls on NHS staff to make reasonable adjustments for people with a learning disability which can help to save lives.

You can see some statistics from the Mencap report below:

HS4LC are very proud to be supporting Learning disability week ( #LDWeek2018 ) as we are a Harrogate charity that works for the benefits of adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Harrogate Skills for Living Centre has a day centre, which runs social groups and is also an accredited learning provider for people with learning disabilities in addition to this we also have two care homes for people with disabilities.

We like to support great campaigns such as the Mencap #LDWeek18 as it highlights the importance of the treatment of people with learning disabilities.

We are supporting the 2018 learning disabilities week because we care about working together to help fulfill lives.

HS4LC recognised that people living with learning disabilities experience isolation and exclusion. Therefore we provide a wide range of support services for our beneficiaries, from basic life skills and further education to promoting independent living and employment opportunities.

We believe in the right of every individual to live to their full potential. No matter the challenge or obstacle; we are there to provide encouragement for beneficiaries, their families, our staff and supporters alike.

It is known that there are different types of learning disabilities, which can be mild, moderate or severe. In all cases a learning disability is lifelong.

Don't forget to show your support and raise awareness for learning disabilities by using the hashtag #LDWeek18 on Facebook and Twitter.
